SPRINGFIELD MO -- On Friday, Jan. 27, the Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) Springfield Conservation Nature Center will receive a visit from one of America’s earliest and undoubtedly most famous naturalists. “A Visit From John James Audubon” will conclude the Nature Center’s Nature and the Arts series. This free program will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is suggested for ages 12 and up.
Audubon, portrayed by naturalist Chris Pistole, remains one of the greatest American naturalists and nature artists. Through his travels, writings and artwork, Audubon caused 19th-century Americans to take note of the rich diversity of wildlife species around them. Naturalists today still consult his descriptions of the now-extinct passenger pigeon and Carolina parakeet. His groundbreaking artwork still inspires people today to appreciate the beauty and diversity of nature.
