Permit Requirements

A Trout Permit is required for the following:

  • To possess trout, except in trout parks where a daily trout fishing tag is required.
  • All winter fishing in trout parks and for all fishing year 'round in Lake Taneycomo upstream from the U.S. Highway 65 bridge

Along with the trout permit a fisherman must have a fishing permit or qualify for an exemption.

Trout Parks

Maramec Spring Park, Bennett Spring State Park, Montauk State Park and Roaring River State Park are open and stocked daily from March 1 through Oct. 31. Anglers need a fishing permit, unless exempt, as well as a daily trout tag. The daily trout tag is $3 for adults and $2 for those 15 and younger. Note: At Roaring River State Park, a daily tag or a trout permit may be used for fishing from the first bridge below the old dam in Zone 3 to the downstream park boundary.

The daily limit is 4, and you must stop fishing for any species after having 4 trout in possession. Area regulations, fishing methods and zones vary. Ask for details when you purchase your tag.

Catch-and-release fishing only is available from Nov. 9, 2012, through Feb. 11, 2013. Maramec Spring Park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The three state parks are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday through Monday. A fishing permit, unless exempt, and a trout permit are required. Only flies may be used.

Winter Trout Fishing Areas

Rainbow trout are stocked in the winter beginning in early November in various lakes. Fishing is permitted year ’round during normal park or area hours.
